Halloween Safety Talk

Garda Stephen came into school this morning to talk to 1st and 2nd class about staying safe at Halloween.
Here are 4 tips for staying safe this halloween night:

1. Carry a lantern, a torch or wear a Hi Viz arm strap when you are in your costume
2. Always have an adult with you or an older brother/sister (over 15) when going from house to house or when crossing roads.
3. Stay away from bangers, fireworks and Bonfires- they are Illegal!
4. Have fun, but safety comes first.

Halloween Night

We are getting very spooky in 1st class this week before we finish up for Midterm. We are learning lots about Halloween traditions from the past in History. We are learning lots of new Irish words, songs, rhymes and have been learning the poem "Witch Witch" in English. We have been using our best "witch voices" in Drama to say our spooky poems. We really love this song. You can now sing it at home aswell.

Maths Week in 2nd Class!

Ms O'Brien's class had excellent maths eyes last week! We used the tablets to challenge ourselves on different tasks. We went on a maths trail to find regular and irregular shapes in the environment and we used shapes and patterns in our art class. Have you got good maths eyes? Come and test yourself on the display outside our classroom!

Nature Walk

In class this week Ms. Mulcahy's first class have been learning about the signs of Autumn and the different types of trees.
All the children learnt about the different parts of the trees and we felt it would be fun to go on a nature walk and see what all these things looked like in real life!

We went to see the old oak tree, the horse chestnut tree, the sycamore tree and the ash tree on the avenue.
We looked at the bark of each tree and took some bark rubbings. We also collected some leaves and some fruit from each tree.

When we got back to the classroom we used pastels, watercolours, paint and crayons to make some leaf rubbings using the leaves we collected. We have displayed what we collected on our nature table in our room!

Come have a look if you have time!

Is féidir liom!
