GAA Players of the Week!

Second class started GAA with Willie from Bray Emmets this week. Willie is a fantastic coach and we were so excited to start. GAA is about more than just football and hurling skills - it's also about leadership skills,  friendship and most importantly,  having fun!  We had great fun at our first session and here are this this week's ' players of the week '!

1916 Projects

First class are loving their history lessons this week in school.We are learning all about the 1916 Easter Rising. This year is the 100th Anniversary of this major Irish event.This was a very important time in Ireland as we got our own Independence.We have learned all about the GPO, Pádraig Pearse, James Connolly, Elizabeth O'Farrell and Countess Markievicz. We learned about the different groups such as Cumann na mBan and the Irish Citizen Army.

We have plotted the key locations used during the rising on the Dublin Map.We have also designed and engineered our own GPO using LEGO and a big well done to the children involved in this....

"Beic Amach" (Shake it Off)

As part of Seachtain na Gaeilge, 1st class are learning "Beic Amach" this week. It is the irish version of Taylor Swift's "Shake it Off"...
We will perform the song as this year's "Ceolchoirm" (concert).

Chinese New Year

Monday 8th February is the Chinese New Year and second class have been marking it by learning about its origins and traditions and how it is celebrated. Come and read our reports on the corridor and see our chinese lanterns. We made them out of papier mache and as you can see in the pictures below, we had great fun making them. What a messy day it was

Lenght Maths Trail

 Last week First Class were learning all about the length of objects. In class we measured using our hands and our strides. We even used our Maths cubes to help us measure some objects. Towards  the end of the week we learnt that length is measured using metres and centimetres. We all had our own metre stick and we measured everything we could find!

We walked all around the school and estimated if things were shorter or longer than a metre. Then we used our metre stick to check if we were right.

At the end of the week, to make sure we knew what we were talking about, we went on a Length Maths Trail! We had to count the strides from the gate to the car park and even see how many children would fit in the shelter! Lucky our class had 24 because we all fit perfectly! It was great fun.



 

Maths 4 Fun

Maths for Fun started this week in 1st class and we had a great time playing some new and fun games.

Who said Maths can't be fun?

Fit as Fiddles!!!

Ms O'Brien's class have been dusting off the Christmas cobwebs with some 'Operation Transformation' style fun!!! We've been stretching, jumping, running, balancing, hopping and bopping in P.E. We feel great after our workout and have lots of fun together too. Check out our pictures below and why not try them out at home!
