First Class Nature Walk

First class has been learning about the signs of Autumn and the different types of trees.

All the children learnt about the different parts of the trees and we felt it would be great fun to go on a nature walk and see what all these things looked like in real life!

We went to see the old oak tree, the horse chestnut tree, the sycamore tree and the ash tree on the avenue. We looked at the bark of each tree and took some bark rubbings. We also collected some leaves and some fruit from each tree.

When we got back to the classroom we used paint and used the leaves we collected to make some prints

. We have displayed what we collected on our nature table in our room!

Sight Word Fun!

First Class have been working hard on their sight words this term. Every week we do sight word stations with lots of fun games like go fish, fly swat and snakes and ladders! These games are all available on the website sightwords.com so are fun and FREE to use at home also. Here's some pictures of us working hard in class with all our games.

Fireman Visit

1st class were very lucky today to have the Firemen and GardaĆ visit them.
They talked to us about their jobs and how they can help us.
They talked about fire safety and how to stay safe at home.
We then got to go outside to the big fire truck and were allowed to sit inside it.
We also got to have some great fun spraying water with the big hose...
Thanks to Derek, Phil and Suzi who took time out of their busy schedule to come talk to us. We really enjoyed it.
